Maintaining doodle coats

Doodles come in all shapes, sizes and coat types! Every Doodle is unique and requires different maintenance routines. Here are things we recommend to keep up with your pup's fluffy coat!

  • Regular grooming appointments are vital to maintain your furry friend's fluffy appearance! We recommend scheduling your Doodle's grooming appointments according to the amount of work you want to do at home. If your goal is a long fluffy coat, schedule your pup a grooming appointment every 4 weeks to prevent tangles. If you are looking for a low maintenance cut with longer time in between grooms we recommend getting a short cut every 5-8 weeks depending on your pup's style.

  • At home brushing is important to keep your pup looking and feeling their best. For dogs with medium to longer coats we recommend brushing your pup every other day to prevent matting. Brushing is important especially after baths, swimming, or rough housing!

  • If you bathe your Doodle at home the use of conditioner and or a conditioner spray can be a helpful tool!

Myths about doodles debunked!

Myth 1:

Doodles should not be groomed until they are 1 year old.

False! Doodles are a combination of Poddles with another breed of dog giving, them a high maintenance coat. We recommend bringing your Doodle puppy as early as possible (after their shots) to get them accustomed to the grooming process.

Myth 2:

Doodles do not shed.

False! Most Doodles are a cross between a curly, single-coated Poodle and a double-coated breed such as Golden Retrievers or Bernese Mountain Dogs. When crossing different coat types, you will likely get a mixture between the coat types. Some Doodle coats may shed less than others, but every coat is different!
